5 Best Mocktail Recipes Using Tepache

There’s no better accompaniment to a Taco Tuesday or a dinner party than a mocktail. They’re perfect for entertaining family and satisfying everyone’s desire for flavorful, delicious drinks without alcohol. This article will give you the five best mocktail recipes using tepache.

What Is A Mocktail?

Before getting to the recipes, you might be wondering, what exactly is a mocktail? A mocktail is a cocktail that does not contain any liquor. In place of alcohol, mocktails may contain juice, soda, infused water, and other ingredients. They’re fantastic non-alcoholic options if you want something besides apple cider, club soda, and grape juice for an alcohol-free drink.

Much like cocktails, these ingredients are combined in specific quantities to make delicious, refreshing drinks. Although you might assume that because they do not contain alcohol, their flavor is less complex, mocktails can be quite sophisticated and often contain ingredients that mimic the flavor of different liquors.

Nowadays, there are a wide variety of mocktails available at many bars and restaurants. However, there are still some classic mocktails, just as there are classic cocktails. These classics include drinks like the Shirley Temple, Roy Rogers, and Arnold Palmer.

If you’re serving a group that includes children or people who cannot or choose not to drink, mocktails are the perfect choice of beverage. Even though they are non-alcoholic, they add an air of class and sophistication to a party.

What Is Tepache?

Tepache is a fermented Mexican beverage, similar in texture to kombucha. Unlike kombucha, tepache has a subtle citrus flavor that makes it the perfect addition to cocktails and mocktails. This delicious drink is made from pineapple rinds and cores.

Tepache is often flavored with cinnamon and sugar. However, you can find several varieties of tepache with a diverse array of flavors, such as orange turmeric, mango chili, and tamarind citrus.

In mocktails, it makes a fantastic substitute for tonic water, ginger ale, ginger beer, and a variety of other mixers.

How Do You Muddle Herbs?

Some of these recipes require that you muddle mint leaves and other fresh herbs. If you’re unfamiliar with muddling, don’t worry! To muddle herbs, all you need is a sturdy glass container and a muddler. A muddler is a tool made of wood, stainless steel, or plastic that has a rounded end.

Place the herbs and whatever other ingredients the recipe calls for in the cup or bowl. Press the muddler gently on the leaves and twist it gently. You only want to twist until you get a slight smell of the herb in your kitchen.

If you’re muddling the herbs with fruit, you should see some juice release from the fruit. Muddling herbs for too long or too roughly can cause them to release the chlorophyll in their leaves, leading to a bitter taste that can cause your cocktail to taste grassy.

Mojito

Making a virgin tepache mojito is easier than it may sound. To make this tasty sparkling beverage, you’ll need mint leaves, fresh lime juice, honey simple syrup, and tepache. If you’d like, you can also have crushed ice and lime slices on hand.

First, muddle about ten mint leaves and two tablespoons of lime juice in a glass. Muddle for about one minute, making sure not to completely crush or shred the mint. Add two tablespoons of the honey simple syrup. Fill the remainder of the glass with tepache. If you’d like, you can add ice and garnish with lime slices, mint sprigs, or fresh fruit.

Paloma

The Paloma is a traditional Mexican cocktail. Its simple, light flavor makes it the perfect summer beverage. The best part? It’s easy to make a virgin Paloma!

For this drink, you’ll need grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and tepache. To give this cocktail a true citrus twist, you can use fresh-squeezed juice. You can also add ice and lime or grapefruit wedges for garnish.

If you have a cocktail shaker, combine a ½ cup of grapefruit juice, ¼ a cup of lime juice and shake, and a few drops of simple syrup to taste. If you don't have a shaker, combine the juices and simple syrup in a tall glass and stir. Split ¾ cup of tepache into two cups with ice. Strain the juice mixture over the tepache and add your garnish.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with the amount of simple syrup in your mocktail. You can also substitute simple syrup with stevia or your favorite sweetener.

Margarita

Another classic Mexican cocktail is the margarita. If you’re hosting a Taco Tuesday, don’t miss out on the opportunity to make virgin margaritas for everyone. For a mocktail margarita with a pineapple twist, you’ll need limeade, orange juice, simple syrup, and tepache. If you want to give your margaritas the classic rim, you’ll need sugar, coarse salt, lime. If you want, you can also have ice on hand.

To make four servings of this delicious, fruity drink, combine 2 cups of limeade, ¾ cup of orange juice, and ¼ cup of simple syrup in a pitcher. On a plate, mix together equal parts sugar and coarse salt for the rim.

Run a lime slice over the rim of each cup. Dip each cup into the sugar and salt mixture to coat the rim. Fill each glass with as much ice as you’d like. Pour the limeade mixture over the ice, almost to the top. Top off each glass with tepache.

For garnish, you can add a lime wedge to squeeze into each drink.

Pineapple Cranberry Spritzer

For a more complex, wintry mocktail, you can make a Pineapple Cranberry Spritzer. Gather fresh cranberries, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange juice, fresh mint, sparkling water, and ice.

To make four servings of this spritzer, bring 1 ½ cup fresh cranberries, ⅓ cup maple syrup, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tsp nutmeg to a simmer in a pot. Let this mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, making sure to stir often. Place 2-3 tablespoons of the mixture into a copper mug or glass. On top of the mixture, place four fresh mint leaves and 1 oz of orange juice. Muddle the mixture well, and mash the cranberries. Add ice and tepache to fill the glass. If you want, you can garnish with fresh cranberries and a mint spring.

Tepache Sunrise

This tasty summer cocktail only contains four ingredients and is sure to impress your family. You’ll need orange juice, peace juice, tepache, and grenadine to make a tepache sunrise. Fill a highball glass with 1 ½ cups of orange juice, 1 cup of peach juice, 6 tablespoons of tepache, and 6 tablespoons of grenadine.

When you add the grenadine, it will sink to the bottom initially, but it will rise and blend in as you drink it. You can garnish with cherries and orange slices to make this drink stand out on a table.

Conclusion

Mocktails are perfect for people who don’t want to drink or a party with kids. Although you might think they can’t be as complex and sophisticated as cocktails, there are several ways to make a delicious, intricate mocktail. Adding tepache to mocktails gives them a subtle pineapple flavor and bubbly texture.

To make mocktails with tepache, you’ll often need some type of fresh-squeezed juice and mint. Although there are several recipes you can follow, don’t be afraid to experiment with tepache to make a new mocktail of your own!
